A mascot has to survive being redrawn badly by other people, on a window, on a sticker, at the top of an email. So the whole character is three shapes and one angle: the wedge of the helmet, the calf, the lean. I gave them a one page sheet showing what breaks him. He has been on the window for a year and nobody has broken him yet.
