Bayou Table wanted a portrait to run with the review, not a photograph of a plate. I sat in the dining room for an hour with a notebook and drew her four times through the pass. What I kept was the way she talks over her shoulder while the hands keep going the other way, so the head turns one direction and the arms turn the other. The heat behind her is one flat orange with no rendering at all.
